I. PROGRAM INFORMATION

What is CBL?
CBL is an acronym we use for Computer Based Learning. A more commonly used acronym for similar products is CBT (Computer Based Training), however we feel that the emphasis of our programs is on learning outcomes, not just time spent going through a program. Our CBL programs support practical training exercises, whether conducted in a training facility or on board ship, and are designed so that they can be used by instructors as teaching/learning aids, or by individuals as self-paced learning tools.
 
I'm not a computer expert. Can I use the CBL programs?
If you can use basic programs such as Microsoft Internet Explorer then you will have no difficulty using our CBL programs. Great care has been taken in the design of the program interface to ensure that each program is user-friendly, and intuitive, taking into account students with minimal computer and keyboard skills.
 
Can you customize a product for our organization?
Yes, we can provide product customization. This may consist of modifying our existing "off the shelf" programs to be ship-specific, based on your own safety manuals and plans, or we can develop completely new programs (CBL's and DVD's) to your own unique specification.
 
How do I get an evaluation copy?
Contact Us. Please indicate your Full Name, Title/Position, Company Name, Industry Type. We would also welcome any additional information you care to share with us regarding your specific needs.
 
Are CBL programs available in different languages?
All our CBL's and DVD's are made in English, however we can provide programs to order in a number of different languages. Contact Us.

Can I try the CBL programs before I purchase?
Yes - a number of our CBL programs are available as demo versions. You can download them for evaluation.
 
Do you offer quantity discounts?

II. TECHNICAL INFORMATION

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS:

What kind of a computer do I need for the CBL Programs?
Almost all PC computers today meet the minimum hardware and software requirements of the CBL programs.
 
What are the Minimum Hardware Requirements?
Processor - Intel® Pentium® II or higher processor
Video Adapter/Card - SVGA compatible with 24-bit color and 800 by 600 screen resolution
Hard Disk Drive - Please see corresponding programs' Hard Disk space requirements
CD-ROM Drive - 52x speed
Sound Card - Sound Blaster-compatible
Peripherals - Keyboard, Mouse or any pointing device, printer, Speaker

What are the Minimum Software Requirements?
Operating System - Windows® 98, Windows® 2000, Windows® XP or Windows® Vista
QuickTime 6.5.1 or later  
Internet Explorer 4 or later  
DirectX 7.0a or later  
Data Access Objects (DAO) 3.6  
 
Are your CBL programs compatible with the Apple Macintosh OS?
We do not support Macintosh computers. Our CBL programs are designed for a computer running on Windows® 98, 2000, XP or Vista operating system.
 

PROGRAM START-UP / INSTALLATION:

Do your CBL programs run without installation?
Yes, you can run the program from the CD without installation by choosing the 'Run from CD' in the Option Screen after inserting the CBL CD-ROM.
 
The CBL CD-ROM did not start automatically on my PC. What's wrong?
The "Autorun" feature allows the CD-ROM drive to automatically start a program on a CD-ROM. Our CBL CD-ROM's are designed to "Autorun" after inserting the CD in the CD-Rom drive. Please check if this feature is enabled on your CD-ROM drive.

If Autorun is disabled:

1. Double-click the 'My Computer' icon on your desktop.
2. Double-click the icon for your CD-ROM drive.
3. Open the 'Option' folder.
4. Double-click the 'Option.exe'.
 
Does the program need to be installed?
You may run the program from CD or install the program on your hard drive from the Option screen. Installing the program on your hard drive will maximize the performance of the CBL program especially when running video, animation and audio files.
 
My CBL program is unable to install due to a program error during installation. What's wrong?
Please ensure that you have met the system minimum requirements of the CBL program, particularly the available hard disk space. Ensure that you have sufficient hard disk space to accommodate the uncompressed CBL program.

Also check your CD-ROM drive. When the CD-ROM finds the CBL program installer file hard to read, it may need cleaning.

During installation, an error occurred with a message "Program Error: Mcshield.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows?. You will need to restart the program. An error log is being created." What's wrong?
This is a known issue with McAfee users running Windows? NT and Windows? 2000 platform.

Please try to disable the McAfee Viruscan Software by:

1. In the system tray on your desktop, right-click the McAfee VirusShield (Vshield) icon and select "Exit" from the pop-up menu.

2. If you are presented with the Vshield Dialog box explaining you are attempting to turn off background scanning, select the "Yes" button.

3. The VirusShield icon should disappear from the system tray if you have successfully disabled McAfee VirusScan/Vshield.

Re-run the CBL program. On the Option screen, click the 'Install Program' to start the installation process.

If the problem persists, update the McAfee program with the latest engine data files from the McAfee website or try installing the CBL program on a different computer.
 
Do I need to reboot after the installation of CBL program?
It is recommended to reboot your computer after installation for the program settings to take effect. You may however choose to reboot at a later time.
 

PRODUCT SUPPORT FILES

QUICKTIME:

Why does the program hang when a video is loading or currently playing?
There are cases that require QuickTime to set the Video Settings to 'Safe Mode' In order to obtain maximum performance of the program follow these instructions:

1. Double-click the 'My Computer' icon on your desktop and then double-click the 'Control Panel' icon. The Control Panel window will appear.

2. Double-click the 'QuickTime' icon. This will display the "QuickTime Settings" dialog box.

3. Click the dropdown box and select "Video Settings".

4. Choose the "Safe Mode (GDI Only)" option.

5. Close the QuickTime settings dialog box.
 
While installing QuickTime, an error message is displayed: "QuickTime setup detected that this system does not meet the following requirements for QuickTime 6. Requires an administrative user privilege level." What's wrong?
When installing QuickTime with operating systems such as Windows® 2000 or Windows® XP, please ensure that you are logged in Windows® with an 'Administrator' level. The 'Administrator' has full access to the system thus allowing you to install programs.

Once logged in as Administrator, run the CBL program. You will be asked to install QuickTime if it is not found on your system.

DATA ACCESS OBJECTS (DAO):

Why does my computer restrict the installation of Data Access Objects (DAO)?
If you are using Windows® 2000 or Windows® XP, you should logged in Windows® with an Administrator level for proper installation of DAO.
 
After double-clicking on the dao36.exe, a message is displayed "A previous program installation was never completed. You need to restart your computer to complete that installation before running DAO 3.6 installation. DAO 3.6 will now close." What's wrong?
This happens because the first installation of DAO was interrupted leading to unsuccessful setup and preventing the user from re-installing it. Without the DAO, the CBL program will not have communication with the database.

An alternative installer named Jet 4.0 Database Engine provided by Microsoft includes the necessary database components as well as the DAO 3.6 files required by the CBL program.

To obtain the Microsoft Jet 4.0 Database Engine, follow these instructions:

1. Go online to download the appropriate version of the Jet service pack for your computer:

2. After downloading, double-click the downloaded file to start the Jet service pack setup.

3. When the setup is finished, restart your computer.
 

DIRECTX:

What is DirectX?
DirectX is one of the required components of the CBL program, specifically with the handling of sound files.

It is recommended to have DirectX 7.0 or later installed in your system.

INTERNET EXPLORER AND HTML HELP:

Why doesn't the Full Text feature open?
Please ensure that you have Internet Explorer version 4 or later installed in your system. It has the components needed by the Full Text feature.

PRODUCT ACTIVATION:

What is Product Activation?
IDESS I.T. developed the Product Activation for the CBL programs to ensure that each licensed purchased is limited to a single installation of the program or as permitted in the End User License Agreement.

The CBL program generates a unique Serialization Code for every installation. The Serialization Code (alphanumeric code displayed on the Activation Form of the program) and the Product ID (found on the CD case) are needed in order to obtain a valid Activation Code of the program.

Product Activation also allows you to register the CBL program you have purchased in order to receive product updates or upgrades.

To obtain the valid activation code of the CBL program, you can go to http://www.idessinteractive.com/activationcode or Contact Us. Please make sure to have the Serialization Code and Product ID ready.
 
After entering the Activation Code and re-starting the program, why does it display a new Serialization Code?
If you are using Windows® 2000 or Windows® XP, you should log into Windows® as Administrator level for proper program activation.

The Administrator level has full access to the system allowing you to modify system components required by the program.
 
After activating the program, I installed the program on another PC. Why does it display a new Serialization Code and request a new Activation Code?
Each Installation corresponds to a license. If you purchase a single license, you may consider the following:

A. Transfer License - This allows you to transfer the program's license from one computer to another without requesting for a new Activation Code or incurring additional cost. Please refer to the Program Guide (included in the package) on Transfer License Option for more details.

B. Lease or purchase additional licenses - You can go to our Order Form Page to view the schedule of prices.

THE ONLINE ACTIVATION CODE GENERATOR:

Why doesn't the Activation Code generator accept my Product ID?
You may have entered an incorrect Product ID. Please double-check the Product ID and Serialization Code before using the Online Activation Code Generator.
 
The first Serialization Code I entered was incorrect. When I entered the correct Serialization Code, the Activation Code generator told me that my Product ID was already processed. What should I do to obtain the Activation Code?
Once you have entered the Product ID in the Online Activation Code Generator, the Product ID is recorded in our database and flagged as processed.

Please report this incident to our Technical Support team and they will assist you in obtaining your Activation Code.
 
I was trying to activate the CBL program on another computer, but the Activation Code generator told me that I have reached my limit. What should I do to obtain the Activation Code?
You may have reached the number of licenses that you are allowed to activate. To obtain an Activation Code, you may consider to:

A. Transfer License - This allows you to transfer the program's license from one computer to another without requesting for a new Activation Code or incurring additional cost. Please refer to the Program Guide (included in the package) on Transfer License Option for more details.

B. Lease or purchase additional licenses - You can go to our Order Form Page to view the schedule of prices.
 

PROGRAM LOG-IN:

I cannot get into the program. A message is displayed "You must get pass a valid handle to open database object." What's wrong?
There are two probable causes for this message:

1. The Database has not been properly closed by the program.
2. The Database is corrupted due to unexpected program termination.


Step 1 - You must first close the database properly by:

1. Making sure that the CBL Program is closed.
2. Go to the default database location of the CBL Program

Default database location: "C:\IDESSit\CBL\<Program Initials>\Components\1\bins"

Ex. C:\IDESSit\CBL\BFS\Components\1\bins

3. Delete the file "<Database Name>.ldb".

Ex. cbl_bfs.ldb

4. Run CBL Program and check if the error has been corrected. If problem persists follow the next step.


Step 2 - Re-install the database by:

1. Making sure that the CBL Program is closed.
2. Go to the default database location of the CBL Program

Default database location: "C:\IDESSit\CBL\<Program Initials>\Components\1\bins"

Ex. C:\IDESSit\CBL\BFS\Components\1\bins

3. Delete "bins" folder.

NOTE: All files in the "bins" folder will be removed. It is recommended to create a back up by copying it to another folder or location in your computer.

4. Run CBL program. The program will prompt you to locate database, setup new database or exit. Click setup new database button. This will install a new copy of the database. The program needs to be closed to apply the changes made.
5. Run CBL Program and check if the error has been corrected.

PROGRAM NAVIGATION:

Why doesn't the CBL program look good in full screen on my notebook/laptop computer?
Older LCD screens may not support anti-aliasing.
Also your video adapter card may not support or be able to optimize full screen viewing.
 

TRANSFER LICENSE FEATURE:

What is the 'Transfer License'?
This feature of the program allows you to transfer the program's license from one computer to another without requesting for a new Activation Code or incurring additional cost. Please refer to the Program Guide on Transfer License Option for more details.
 
Why can't I find the License File?
Please ensure to note the location where you have saved the license file, this is important for a successful Transfer License operation. You can either save the license file on a floppy disk or any removable storage device. Once the license file has been transferred from the Source Computer, you will not be able to create another license file.
 
Can I contact you for assistance in transferring my CBL license?
Yes, we will be glad to assist you with the Transfer License procedure. Contact Us.
 
I don't want to transfer my license, how can I purchase additional licenses?
To purchase additional licenses, go to Order Form Page or Contact Us.
 

UPDATES AND UPGRADES INFORMATION:

What are my update options?
You are entitled to free updates for the version of the Licensed CBL program you have purchased. For Leased CBL programs, you are entitled to a year of free updates.
 
When do I receive program updates?
We will notify you as soon as we have the latest program updates.
 
What are my upgrade options?
When there is a version upgrade of the CBL program you have purchased, it is your option to purchase the upgraded version.

We will notify you as soon as we have the latest program upgrades available.
